2010 Fiesta Bowl
2010 Fiesta Bowl
The 2010 Fiesta Bowl is certainly one of the most interesting games on this year's bowl schedule. Featuring two undefeated teams in Texas Christian University and Boise State, the game has the makings of being a memorable one.The two teams met in last year's Poinsettia Bowl and the Horned Frogs came away with a one-point victory.
There is little that hasn't been said about these two teams.
Both play in inferior conferences, but that can't diminish some impressive stats on both sides of the ball for each. TCU is noted for its defense, but the Frogs put up 488 points this season, an average of more than 40 per game.
Boise St. is known for its offense, but it's hard to overlook the Broncos holding Oregon to just one touchdown and several other games. Even in games that Boise State allowed a lot of points, the defense may not have been as bad as the score looked. La. Tech scored 35 points, but just gained 250 yards, scoring on an interception return and scoring on a 20-yard drive after a 73-yard kick-off return.
The Broncos were victimized by the big play several times throughout the season, something they will have to contain to stay in this game.
Boise State is no stranger to the big stage, while TCU is making its first-ever appearance in a BCS Bowl. The experience factor should help the Broncos.
Both quarterbacks take care of the football, throwing for just a combined eight interceptions on the season and are capable of making a play to keep a drive alive.
Pinnacle opened the game at TCU -9 and it quickly went to 7. The line has flirted with jumping to 7.5 throughout Monday morning, but looks to be holding steady at 7. The total is 54.
The public is backing Boise State, while the so-called smart money is on TCU.
Boise State is probably better than they get credit for defensively, which could be a key here. TCU wasn't overly impressive in wins at Clemson and at Air Force, so have to like the Broncos chances of keeping the game close. The Broncos do have the offensive to get the back-door cover if they get behind, as well.
We'll give Boise State the nod and lean towards the under.
