A "Pampers Party" is term for a baby shower given for a father-to-be. They're also called Daddy Diaper Showers and Pamper-and-Poker Parties. For your invitations, cut card stock to look like folded diapers and pin them shut with diaper pins. Serve "man food" like hamburgers or pizza. Ask the mom-to-be if the couple has a preferred style of diaper and instruct each guest to bring a package of those diapers--or standard infant diapers if there is no preference--in addition to his shower gift.

    Diaper Cake

    • Assemble the diapers and gifts into a diaper gift cake. Simply roll up the diapers and fasten them around the gifts to form circular "layers" of graduated sizes, then stack the layers on top of each other to resemble a wedding cake. Trim it with other small baby items. Choose a variety of gifts such as soap, lotion, shampoo, stuffed animals, blankets, towels, washcloths and small teething toys.

    Tools

    • Cribs and swings are just the beginning--from now on, the new dad will be assembling and fixing doll houses, tricycles, bicycles and starter-car transmissions for at least the next 18 years. Give him a classic red tool box filled with basic tools, such as a hammer, screwdrivers in assorted sizes and head configurations, pliers (needle nose and slip joint), vice grips and wrenches (ratchet and crescent). Add in an assortment of nails, screws, nuts, bolts and even bandages.

    Photo Gear

    • There are so many priceless photo opportunities in the new dad's near future that he will benefit greatly from the gift of a digital camera. Even if he's a professional photographer already, he may find that the combination of sleep deprivation and lack of preparation will make it too difficult to catch those precious moments with his fancy equipment, so a good-quality point-and-shoot camera will be a welcome alternative.

Another great gift in this theme is a digital photo frame, so he can display the best shots of his bundle of joy. Now there are even key-chain versions of these frames--the 21st-century version of the new father with a wallet full of photos.

    Diaper Bag

    • Give the daddy-to-be something in which to carry all those new diapers. Most men won't want to carry the same frilly or cutesy diaper bag their wife uses, so skip the classic Pooh or Hello Kitty diaper bags and get him something more masculine. There are diaper bags made especially for dads that look like laptop cases, backpacks and messenger bags. Fill it with diaper creams, baby wipes, and, of course, diapers.
