California State Law: CVC 22100 A
- All approaches to make a right-hand turn onto a highway in California must be made as close as is possible to the curb or edge on the right-hand side of the road. In other words, a vehicle may not make a right-hand turn onto a highway from the middle or left lane.
- If a driver is traveling in the middle lane of a three-lane highway with traffic moving in one direction and that intersects with another highway, he may make a right-hand turn onto the intersecting highway provided that a lane indicates that such movement may be made.
- If additional signs or lanes on a California highway indicate that a right-turn from any lane may be made, a driver may rely on such designations in order to make a lawful right-hand turn.
