How to Cut Gypsum Walls
- 1). Place a straightedge flat against the gypsum wall in the location that you want to cut it. Draw a line on the wall with a pencil.
- 2). Set the pencil down and pick up a utility knife, keeping the straightedge aligned with one of the pencil lines.
- 3). Press down with firm pressure and move the utility knife all the way down one of the pencil lines.
- 4). Pick up the utility knife and the straightedge. Move the straightedge to another one of the pencil lines and repeat the process to cut through the it with the utility knife. Repeat the process to cut through all remaining pencil lines.
- 5). Set the straightedge aside and recut each of the lines with the knife until you feel the blade poke through to the inner cavity.
- 6). Grasp the cut-out portion of the gypsum wall and pull it outward to remove it from the wall.
