Broadway Shows Opening April 2013
As the race to the 67th Tony Awards' eligibility deadline approaches, a slew of shows will be opening in the month of April 2013. The list below will be updated as new information on other productions is finalized.
Tom Hanks makes his Broadway debut in the new show, Lucky Guy, playing at the Broadhurst Theatre. This marks the world premiere of this work by the late great Nora Ephron, who dug into her former career as an investigative journalist to create this show. Frank Wildhorn's cult classic Jekyll & Hyde returns to Broadway after becoming a worldwide sensation since its initial run. Re-imagined for this revival, the dark musical takes on a decidedly more pop music flavor this time around, aided by the power vocals of Constantine Maroulis of Rock of Ages' fame. Also starring in this production are Deborah Cox and Teal Wicks. The production team released a concept cast album in 2012 which gave hints as to the direction the stage show would take. Acclaimed actress Fiona Shaw and director Deborah Warner collaborated to create this new work for the Broadway stage, penned by celebrated novelist Colm Tóibín. 9. April 21 - 'Macbeth'
"Shakespeare as you have never seen it performed" should be the motto for this new, one-man production of "The Scottish Play." Scottish performer and Tony Award winner Alan Cumming leaves the set of "The Good Wife" to revive his physically and mentally challenging role in this new Macbeth. Cumming plays all the parts as a patient in a psych ward who envisions the play in his mind. Macbeth plays at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.10. April 22 - 'The Testament of Mary'
