Teeth whitening

A bright, white healthy smile goes a long way to making you look and feel great. Many of our Truro patients who have undergone a tooth whitening transformation say that the results have given them a significant boost to their self-confidence.
Our teeth darken over time due to "intrinsic" staining - stains within the tooth structure. Coloured foods such as tea, coffee, wine and pasta or curry sauces can also take their toll. Coloured compounds form within the enamel of your teeth and absorb light. This gives the teeth that drab, lifeless, darker look.

The whitening process breaks down these compounds and restores that white, sparkling vitality to your teeth. Even teeth that have been stained by medicines such as Tetracycline antibiotics respond well to extended whitening.

At Pure Dental Health and Wellbeing in Truro, Cornwall we often find significant results within days and most people usually reach their ideal colour within two to three weeks of treatment. The result can last up to two years or more, although we find most patients €top-up' for a couple of days every six to eight months.
Whitening toothpastes have a limited effect as they only deal with "extrinsic" staining, ie, surface stains. They have no effect on deep-down intrinsic stains.

Often the difference between a good smile and a great smile is the whiteness of the teeth. As teeth age they lose their lustre and brightness. The great news is that we have a professional tooth whitening system that can bring back that bright white smile.

So how does it work? The gel is applied to your teeth and the Enlighten tooth whitening light is positioned over your teeth to activate the gel. After 40 minutes your teeth will be at their brightest. The active ingredient that your Springfield dentist will apply, is hydrogen peroxide, which has been used in dentistry for over 100 years, and proven to be completely safe.

Whitening can last up to 3 years. However, everyone's habits and lifestyles vary and the use of tobacco, regular drinking red wine, coffee, or tea will affect how long your results will last. Frequent visits to your dentist in Cornwall for professional cleaning will help maintain the results. You may wish to use the whitening treatment frequently, and keep a whiter smile!

There shouldn't be any discomfort. The specially formulated whitening powder is mixed with peroxide to form a gentle gel. A paint on damn is used to protect your gums from the gel. However, some people may feel mild sensitivity during the procedure.
