Build a Chain Link Dog Kennel for Peace of Mind

If you have a fenced backyard and own a dog you generally don't need to worry about where to put your dog during the day.
On the other hand if you don't have a backyard with a fence around it and you suddenly find yourself the owner of a new dog or puppy then you have some decisions to make because you can't just let your dog run free.
If fencing the backyard is too expensive then it might be a good idea to consider a chain link dog kennel.
It is not that hard to build a chain link dog kennel but you do need a plan to follow and think about how big you want it to be.
This of course will depend on the size of your dog when he or she has grown to full size.
The bigger the dog the bigger the kennel will need to be.
Also take into account the need for some form of shelter or dog house inside the kennel to protect your dog from the elements.
You will also need to think about how high the kennel fence should be to prevent your dog from jumping out.
Some dogs are able to jump very high and can clear a four foot barrier with ease.
Once you settle on a size you need to decide where in yard you want to build it.
You will also need to start thinking about what type of material you wish to build it out of.
There are several varieties and sizes of chain link fence to choose from.
It comes in different heights as well, anywhere from 3 feet to 10 feet high.
Choosing the correct materials before you begin to build your kennel is an important part of the planning process.
You don't want to be half way done only to find out that what you had planned doesn't work with the materials you've bought.
The last thing you want to do is take it apart and start over.
You will also need to decide what type of posts to use when building your kennel.
There are two basic choices; metal posts that are used with standard chain link fences or landscape timbers.
Cement will need to be used to set the metal posts which means once built your kennel will be hard to move.
With landscape timbers you don't necessarily need to use cement which leave you the option of moving the kennel if need be.
Once you have your plan and materials together you can build a chain link dog kennel in relatively short order and have a safe place to keep your four legged friend when you are gone for the day.
