Curious Village Hints
- "Professor Layton and the Curious Village" is a Nintendo DS game where players solve over a hundred brain-teasing puzzles in search of a missing fortune. Professor Hershel Layton and his protegee Luke are hired by Lady Dahlia to locate the Golden Apple, a key item in determining who inherits the estate of the late Baron Augustus Reinhold. What appears to be an inheritance dispute becomes a grand mystery involving every resident of St. Mystere.
- If a puzzle proves problematic, Hint Coins can be redeemed in exchange for hints in solving the puzzle. There are about 200 coins that can be found by tapping various objects throughout the locales of St. Mystere. A robotic dog built by collecting 20 Strange Gizmos and by putting them together in the Gizmos section of The Professor's Trunk can direct players to the Hint Coins locations.
- By collecting furniture and placing them in the rooms assigned to Layton and Luke at the Inn, bonus puzzles are unlocked. The first piece of furniture is given by Beatrice, while the other 29 pieces are acquired by solving the following puzzles: 18, 33, 43, 46, 47, 49, 50, 53, 55, 56, 57, 61, 63, 69, 71, 72, 73, 75, 77, 78, 80, 82, 85, 88, 89, 91, 103, 104 and 109.
- The Strange Gizmos collected during the course of the game are used to build a robotic dog, named Gizmo by default, that can sniff out Hint Coins. The 20 Strange Gizmos are acquired by speaking with Franco and solving the following puzzles: 16, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 34, 35, 37, 38, 40 and 41.
- A painting of a woman sitting by a window is revealed after collecting the Painting Scraps and piecing them together in the Painting area of The Professor's Trunk. The 20 scraps are found by searching the two portraits in the Manor Foyer and solving the following puzzles: 14, 17, 26, 36, 45, 48, 51, 52, 54, 59, 60, 62, 79, 81, 83, 86, 87, 90 and 93.
- Hidden puzzles can be found by tapping certain objects throughout the village of St. Mystere. During Chapter 1, tap the chandelier in the Manor Parlor. In Chapter 2, tap a poster in Park Road, a photo at the Inn and a window at the Town Hall. In Chapter 3, tap a pillar at the Market and the doorway at the Clock Tower. During Chapter 4, speak with Gordon after solving puzzle 61, tap a bottle in Crumm's Cafe, tap the Inn signboard, and tap the hanging meat at Prosciutto's place. The hidden puzzle of Chapter 5 is in a bookcase at Archibald's place. Tap the signboard in the Path Entrance, a window in Tower Road and speak with Martha to find the hidden puzzles in Chapter 6. During Chapter 7, tap the tents at the Abandoned Tent, trash along the Shack Path and a manhole to the Sewer. The last set of hidden puzzles are acquired by speaking with Prosciutto, Archibald and Martha during Chapter 8.
- When certain conditions are met, bonus puzzles divided into Houses appear in the Layton's Challenges section of the Bonuses menu. Try collecting all of the Strange Gizmos, Painting Scraps and properly arranging the furniture at the Inn to reveal even more puzzles. Completing the story and solving every available puzzle will unveil the final challenges.
