Ryanair Set to Provide Budget Flights from UK to Bulgaria from September
Low cost carrier Ryanair will begin to serve Bulgaria with budget flights from the United Kingdom from September of this year, reports House Sales Bulgaria (http://www.housesalesbulgaria.com/), the online resource for property in Bulgaria. Making the country more accessible to the British Isles for less can only be good news for Bulgaria's real estate market as it broadens the country's appeal for second-home owners and holiday-makers.
From September 2010, Ryanair will begin to fly their chartered budget flights from the UK to Bulgaria. Up until recently the airport fees in Bulgaria were seen to be prohibitively expensive for cheaper air operators to justify adding this route to their services. However, the airport fees at Plovdiv Airport have now been halved (as of May 1st 2010) and will remain at this level until May 1st 2012 thanks to a new initiative.
Hissarya, Assenovgrad and Rodopi are municipalities which surround Plovdiv Airport who together have created a venture which seeks to boost the use of this airport in a bid to increase tourism in and around Plovdiv. Cutting airport fees, even for a finite time, will allow budget carriers to use the airport which will bring many more visitors to this part of Bulgaria. Until now, Plovdiv Airport has been massively under-used even given the Bulgarian government's significant investment into a new passenger terminal (around 40 million Leva). Ryanair could well be the first low cost carrier to start filling this new terminal with holiday-makers, business travellers and second home owners, but it is unlikely to be the last.
The accessibility of a country is always important for its tourism and real estate markets and availability of budget flights is a particular driver of foreign interest in property. The news of Ryanair's service into Plovdiv come September could well benefit property in Bulgaria as a whole: people who were looking to buy a house in Bulgaria but insisted on cheap accessibility can now add the Plovdiv area to their wish-list.
