So, you're in the two week wait, and wondering if cervical mucus -- which you may have used to help time sex for pregnancy -- can tell you if you are actually pregnant.

Here's the disappointing answer: not really.

I know how tempting it can be to look for signs of pregnancy. And, since cervical mucus can tell you when you're ovulating, it seems logical to assume it may also offer clues to an early pregnancy.

Unfortunately, your vaginal discharge may not differ much from what you'd see just before menstruation.

What About Leukorrhea?

You may have heard of leukorrhea, a term used for the discharge that increases during pregnancy. Leukorrhea is basically cervical mucus.

Increased estrogen and blood flow to the vaginal area leads to the increase in this harmless discharge. This occurs just before ovulation -- creating cervical mucus -- and also occurs during pregnancy.

However, it's not really noticeably different in pregnancy until you're further along.

The two week wait would be way too soon.

What About Implantation Bleeding?

There is a small possibility that light bleeding could signal early pregnancy. You may notice it as pink or brown tinted cervical mucus. Known as implantation bleeding, this could be a good sign.

But... it may also just be a sign of your period coming.

In the end, you're better off not trying to predict whether or not you're pregnant by checking your cervical mucus.

Instead, wait until your period is late, so you can take a pregnancy test.
