Perimenopause Signs & Symptoms
- Probably the most evident sign and symptom that a woman is in perimenopause will involve her menstrual cycle. Most women will begin to notice greater gaps between "regular" periods.
- Women who are in perimenopause may begin to suffer from hot flashes. This symptom is characterized by an overwhelming wave of heat throughout the body that may cause a woman to become flush or even to sweat.
- Many women going through perimenopause will also suffer from a certain amount of insomnia. They may have difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep. Or they may have a tremendous feeling of restlessness.
- Since the body is experiencing a number of changes, including a decrease in estrogen, many women suffer from fatigue. This will be a feeling of exhaustion, more so than tiredness.
- Another fairly common symptom of perimenopause will manifest as a change in mood. A woman may become far more irritable, suffer from drastic mood swings, or even face anxiety and depression. Some women may have difficulty concentrating and feeling motivated.
- Some women will begin to experience urinary tract troubles, either infections or incontinence.
- On occasion, a woman may undergo a change in libido, though this issue can be short-lived and can even itself out after all the hormonal changes have regulated.
