Mastiffs - How to Get Them to Stay

103 16
Mastiffs are great dogs and very loyal dogs.
However, since they are so big many times if you are meeting someone in a park, your home, or even at a location that your puppy is not used to being around you will probably want to have them sit and stay where they are.
That way the friend that you are meeting will not be intimidated by having such a large dog run up to them as well.
I know that since they are so loyal though they normally do not want to leave your side and remain where you told them to.
Here is a great tip that I have found that worked really well with my Mastiff and I thought I would share it with you.
The tip that I have found that worked great for me is a reward type of system.
I used three basic rewards for my Mastiff and they are treats, chest patting, and playtime with a game that they like.
For some people this is a great way to reward their pet, but you might have even thought of some others that I do not have listed.
Now to earn the reward my Mastiff would have to sit and stay in the place that he was sitting in without standing up while I walked away from him.
I know that at first I would only walk about a foot or two feet away from him and then have him come to me.
After I have done this a couple of times and know that he is comfortable at that distance then I would slowly increase the amount of space until I am able to have him sit and stay on the porch while I went into the house with him in site and take my shoes off really quick.
Then I would have him come to me and reward him that way.
