Chelsea, West London is best know for the infamous Chelsea Flower Show. The Royal Horticultural Societies showcase of the finest planting and latest in garden design. It is recognised as the world's greatest flower show, attracting visitors from far and wide. This annual event, usually held in May, is also broadcast on the BBC throughout its duration. The event does not go without its special guest, and it is usually privy to a few celebrity names. This years event had guests such as Princess Beatrice, The Queen, Helen Mirren and TV personalities such as Lorraine Kelly and Natasha Kaplinsky. The exhibition lasts only 5 days and showcases the best displays and gardens, afterward they all get judged then awarded with gold, silver and bronze awards. Not only can witness horticultural talent and amazing sights but you can pick up loads of great gardening tips too.There are awards for the best bloom, the best tree, best design space and there are even awards for the most avant-garde design.

There are hundreds of competitors all fighting out for the titles. One title that is hot on everyone's list is annual Florist of the Year, which sees a variety of different blooms and breeds on display to obtain the honorary prize. Although the show has been and gone for this year (2011) it makes a great and spectacular event to visit. It may be a little far in advance for you to be planning, but if you have a love for horticultural and would love to see these award winning gardens first hand then you should. You may want to experience the day with someone and take in the sights together.
