    • 1). Back up any files that you do not wish to lose in case you are unable to fix the issue before the computer crashes or you have to do a system restore because of errors in the registry keys. Back the files into an external hard drive or thumb drive.

    • 2). Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" keys on your keyboard simultaneously, then select the "Start Task Manager" option to open the Task Manager.

    • 3). Click the "Process" tab and stop any process that has the virus name on it by right-clicking on the process and selecting "End Process." Not all viruses will necessarily have processes running here so if you don't see a process with the virus name or virus extension, then skip this step. Note that ending a process that is vital to the computer running properly will cause you to have to restart the computer to get it working properly again.

    • 4). Search for the virus file by clicking the "Start" button and typing in the name of the virus into the "Search" bar at the bottom of the menu and then pressing the "Enter" button on your keyboard.

    • 5). Right-click on the virus file and select "Delete."

    • 6). Go to your "Desktop" and right-click on the "Recycling Bin" and select "Empty" to completely delete the virus file.

    • 7). Open the registry editor by clicking "Start/Run" and then typing in regedit.exe and clicking "Run."

    • 8). Browse through each of the HKEY folders and each individual key that has the virus name or virus extension to it.

    • 9). Delete any key with the virus name/extension to make sure any damage caused by the virus is eliminated. Note that when deleting registry keys, you will change the way your computer works and if you make a mistake and delete the wrong key, you will have to do a system restore to fix this issue.
