Lost! A Runner"s Mishap: Searching for the Elusive Path to Home

I ran and ran and ran.
Now mind you, I generally keep myself in pretty good shape (of course "pretty good" is quite relative).
But there came a point during my run that I had become completely disoriented! I tried this way and that, all to no avail, but I kept running until...
I quite frankly just pooped out! Lo and behold, and suffice to say, I did not know where I was, nor was I where I wanted to be (and oh, by the way, some very surly looking non-runner types seemed to disapprove of a seeming intrusion on their "turf"!) Finally, hanging my head in shame and finding a relatively innocuous looking person, I asked to borrow a phone and called 911 (my wife).
Together with the power of the internet and her GPS, she came to the rescue and picked me up.
It just so happens that if I had had one of the latest things for runners (many of which do much more than help wayward souls!) I would have fared far better.
I needed a GPS running watch! A subsequent purchase and voila! I'm on my way to a brave new world of running.
I, like you, deplore running in circles, so I avoid it like the plague (well maybe not quite that much, but, a LOT.
) On longer runs, especially in suburban areas or housing tracks, I like to go where my whims take me, "off the beaten path" so to speak.
With standard running watches, you can do a lot, but getting un-lost isn't part of the deal! So one of the newest, coolest gizmos for serious (OK, or nerdy) runners is the GPS Runner's Watch.
As I mentioned, these beauties do a lot more than help the lost boys like me.
Besides simply telling you how much time has elapsed, or the basic "lap time", it tells you where you are, can tell you where you've been and where you're going, increase the overall accuracy of actual distance(s) ran, monitor your current and average speed or pace, and tie your shoes (Alright, not the last one).
The GPS running watch is quite frankly one of a series of modern wonders - indispensable? Maybe not, but it's fun, can really add a new juice and twist to your work out, and, if need be, like me, get you out of an embarrassing jam! The GPS Running or sports watch is almost like having a miniature personalized trainer with you at all times.
So...
run! Don't worry about where, take your GPS runner's watch and you'll know!
