The Lake District is a lovely place to visit in the springtime as the land comes back to life and colour returns after the more inclement winter months. And it is not all about walking in the Lake District as there are many exciting activities and events that take place in the spring months that can of interest to kids and adults alike. It does tend to rain more up in this part of the country than it might do in the east and south of England so be sure to set off with the right outdoor clothing for your intended activities.

It is lambing season and there is a lot of sheep farming in the Lakes and hills of Cumbria. So walking in the Lakes at this time of year can be especially joyful what with all the young lambs springing about and being more curious and fearless of humans passing by. There is a particular breed of sheep that is common to the this area whose lambs are born black. It is not until they mature that they fade to brown and then eventually the more common grey colour we are used to with sheep. This can be an especially enchanting site for children and adults alike so well worth taking in a nice trek that is also inhabited by the sheep and lambs.

The Carlisle and Borders Spring Show is a horticultural and flower show event not to be missed if you are a keen gardener or at least a green finger wannabe. There are stalls galore offering flowers, seeds, gardening accessories and also local craft and produce for that rustic and real food feel. Your children will be catered for too as they provide entertainment and arts and crafts activities to keep the younger minds happy and occupied.

For a more quirky spring event for all the family there is Tom Fools Day at Muncaster Castle in Ravensglass near the west coast. Activities here include Foolish Football with the resident Muncaster mascot where scoring goals means prizes. And to top it all off, the family that lives in the castle offer themselves to be the target of wet sponges, all in the name of charity. The World of world famous children's author Beatrix Potter also holds an annual Easter egg hunt which is only over once all the one hundred well hidden eggs are uncovered. And the eggs are distributed throughout the lakes so can be a great way of engaging and tiring out the kids.

So, come discover all the fun and life that is to be enjoyed in the Lakes District this Spring. Warm, waterproof and windproof outdoor clothing will need to be included in your everyday equipment as we can tend to have more than one season in one day at this time of year.
