Confidence and Relaxation

• Confidence means more than putting on airs or adopting a swagger in your step. It means not worrying about something going wrong. If it does, so what? Believe it or not, the world will not end. With that in mind, approach the girl with an easy, relaxed attitude. Look her in the eye and smile at her. Be polite and courteous. Don't talk in a loud voice, but don't mumble either. Pretend she's a friend, someone you've known a long time rather than someone you've just met. It will help you project confidence and, in turn, let both of you relax.
  
  

Honesty

• It never pays to be anything other than who you are. When talking to a girl, don't resort to bragging or bravado--don't feel the need to inflate your own life or achievements. It looks like insecurity and is very likely to turn her off. Similarly, don't feign interest in a topic you dislike, or claim expertise in a topic you know nothing about. If she seems interested in talking about something you're not familiar with, ask her to explain it in more detail to you. Compliment her, but do so in a straightforward manner. Don't tell her she's stunningly beautiful unless you mean it; instead compliment her eyes or her smile, something that feels much more truthful.
  
  

Listening

• Talking to girls isn't the same as talking AT girls, something comparatively few guys understand. Give her a chance to speak and listen to her when she does. Let her talk about things that interest her--hobbies, passions, school, work--and ask questions when you do. Talk about yourself when it's appropriate, but don't blather on and on. At an appropriate moment, send the ball back to her court. Ask her something about her life and let her talk for awhile. Maintain eye contact when you do and pay attention to her facial expressions. Look for topics which cause her to light up and become more animated. Hopefully, you'll find some that you share and can pursue a line of conversation around them.
