There are several reasons for fatigue setting in.
Sleep loss The most obvious reason for tiredness is sleep loss.
Sleep loss itself may be due to many reasons.
Lifestyle may be one of the reasons.
Lack of proper sleep environment may also contribute.
Another obvious reason is the presence of the condition known as sleep apnea.
The presence of this condition leads to the cessation of breathing frequently while asleep.
This leads to the presence of disturbed sleep.
Calorie restriction Several studies indicate that calorie restriction can increase longevity.
Calorie restriction is achieved by reducing the food intake.
At the same time, calorie restriction can also affect the brain to a certain extent.
This is because the brain is critically dependent on the presence of adequate amount of glucose in the circulation.
Falling blood sugar may be one of the reasons for feeling tired.
Also the feeling of hunger can make you feel tired.
Iron deficiency Iron deficiency results in anemia.
This is more common in women who tend to lose blood during menstrual periods.
Iron deficiency results in a decrease in the number of red blood cells which are the carriers of the most needed oxygen to the tissues.
The brain also suffers because of reduced oxygen supply.
Thus, one feels tired.
Depression Depression is a form of emotional stress.
It emanates basically from the brain.
Depression can also affect physical activity resulting in fatigue.
Depression also produces sleep loss which further adds to tiredness.
Depressed thyroid function Thyroid hormones play a major role in stimulating metabolism.
Hypothyroidism is a very common disorder, particularly among women.
When there is thyroid deficiency, metabolism which produces the energy needed for various activities, slows down.
This can produce fatigue.
Diabetes Diabetes is an incurable metabolic disorder characterized by inadequate insulin function.
Insulin is the only hormone capable of reducing the blood sugar levels.
One of the ways by which this is achieved is by promoting the entry of sugar into the cells.
Thus, insulin deficiency or, the inability of the available insulin to act, may hinder the entry of sugar into several cells.
Thus, tissues like the skeletal muscle do not get enough fuel molecules.
Thus, diabetes can also make you tired.
