    • 1). Replace the regular soda in your diet with diet soda. This will help you eliminate some of the calories while you ready yourself to remove all soda from your diet.

    • 2). Cut out one soda per day to start. Replace this soda with a healthy drink, such as water or 100 percent juice.

    • 3). Continue to cut one soda from your daily routine and replace it with another drink. Every week, start drinking one less soda per day. Continue until you're not drinking any soda.

    • 4). Manage your withdrawal symptoms. If you are addicted to soda, you may experience withdrawal symptoms as you start to cut back. These can be caused by caffeine, sugar or the sugar replacements and chemicals found in diet sodas. Take over-the-counter medications for headaches and nausea, and if possible, take a few days off work while the withdrawal symptoms are at their worst.

    • 5). Avoid eating foods that you commonly eat together with soda. Sometimes, these foods can trigger cravings. Once you have successfully stopped drinking soda altogether, you can try slowly incorporating these foods back into your diet.

    • 6). Add another caffeinated beverage to your diet if you drink soda for the caffeine. Coffee can replace the caffeine, but green tea has more health benefits.

    • 7). Drink flavored water. If having plain water with snacks and meals brings the soda cravings back, try drinking flavored water instead.
