The San Jose Bodybuilding, Fitness Figure and Bikini Championships are being held in July of 2012, at the Convention Center in San Jose. Paul Love of Love's Silicon Valley Productions knows all about the field, since he was a 1969 Mr. California and a 1980 Masters Mr. America.

The athletes who appeared in the Fitness and Figure Championships trained for months so that their body look would be just where they wanted it for the moments they spend on stage at the competition. Some athletes may be tense, while others are simply hyped at being able to be onstage. Each person has their own training techniques, which they believe work better for them than other techniques.

Protein is exceptionally important to fitness athletes, and many bring along their weekly food packages for the championships. They try not to eat anything that is unhealthy, since this could affect their performance. They are ready to show the audience and their competitors how well their training has worked, and maybe give their families a glimpse into why they do what they do.

Early in the morning is check-in time for the athletes. They register, weigh in, and have their height measured. They encourage friends in the pre-show, and the female competitors do their makeup and hair styling. After the pre-show, they won't learn their results until later that night.

Finals begin in the evening, and this is a much more enjoyable time for competitors, unless they are overly nervous. They have an MC and music, and it's more glamorous for the entrants than the pre-show. At the evening show, they get their rankings after their performance, instead of having to wait.

The competitors are excited to see their friends and family, co-workers and clients in the audience for the main €event€. Backstage, there are new athletes trying to make some friends, and veterans that are into their own comfort zone and ready to compete. They feel that the chance to meet so many new people is a memorable experience itself.

Even when people are on different €teams€ (with different trainers) they often make lasting friendships with other athletes. They root for each other and support and help each other when it's needed. If a new athlete is having problems, it's common for more experienced bodybuilders to help him or her to get ready for their performance.

The time on-stage is not long enough for many athletes, but may seem too short to others. A show like this, with a history, runs in a more organized manner, and may finish up more quickly than newer shows that don't have their systems down yet. Each competitor tries to use their time in a wise way, so that they will look their best, and strike a chord with the judges and the audience. This will help them to perform at their best, and pose properly, to show off their muscles.

After the presentations, the athletes often gather together, to share in each other's victories and reminisce about the event and the friends they have made.
