For the past nine years under the regime of Ralph Gonsalves and Unity Labour Party the people of Saint Vincent and Grenadines have suffered a lot of misery. The economic situation deteriorated and the rate of crime has also increased manifold. However, the then government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines which in this case is also the present government of the country took no measures to fix these problems. Slower economy and higher rate of crime is only a few of the major problems that the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines face these days. Some of these problems are so severe that it can lead to other major problems. Let us asses each of these problems to find out the severity of each of them.

After the banana production in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines slowed down owing to hurricane and other natural calamities the economy of this agrarian country faced a big jolt and the entire economy staggered to make up for it. The government too was not able to provide any concrete solution that can boost up this staggering economy. They cannot encourage the harvest of any other crop and hence they failed considerably. In such a situation the production of marijuana began increasing in this country and at present the country has become one of the largest marijuana producers in the Caribbean. This has lead to an increased crime rate. There have been an increased number of murders, rapes and other violent crimes in the past few years in this country. Most of these crimes took place due to drugs and other narcotics. This way drug production and business has become one of the most prominent issues for the safety and well being of the residents of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The staggering economy has also given rise to a number of unemployment. Some people who were associated with banana production found themselves out of jobs and their families went down to utter poverty. Many of these people later looked for the path of crime to sustain their family and to live a good life. This is solely because the government has not done enough to help these people go back to a normal life and find them some good employment.

However, off late the government is thinking about developing tourism industry in the country that can help them earn foreign revenue. However, they are still in the development stage and the international airport is still in a developing stage. The roads are in a poor condition. With such roads it is not possible for a country to develop itself as a tourist destination. If you are a resident of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, then you are probably aware of these problems. So, my question to you is whether you are happy with the current government? If you want to say yes and shut your eyes to the inefficiency of the government then in have nothing to say to you. But if your answer is no, then I would request you to use your right to elect a new government.
