    Putting on the Shift Grip

    • 1). Slide your knife under the handlebar grip on the side on which you want to install your twist clutch. Leave the knife in place, and this should hold the grip off of the surface of the handlebar.

    • 2). Pour some water from into the space between the handlebar and the grip. Work your handlebar grip off of your handlebar.

    • 3). Loosen the hex bolt that keeps your gear shifter in place, if your bike has a gear shifter. Pull this shifter off of your handlebar.

    • 4). Use your hex key again or your pliers to loosen the bolt or screw that holds your brakes in place. Pull these brakes off of your handlebar.

    • 5). Slide the grip shifter that will be your clutch onto your handlebar, and use your hex key to tighten the bolt that fastens it in place.

    • 6). Put your brake lever back on your handlebar, and tighten it in place.

    • 7). Return your gear shifter to its old place on your handlebar and tighten it in place.

    • 8). Curl and pull your handlebar grip back into place.

    • 9). Remove the cover screw from your grip shifter with your screwdriver.

Pull the cable head out of its socket with your needle nosed pliers, if there is a cable to remove.

    Inserting the Cable

    • 1). Remove the spring from the end of your clutch cable. Put this spring in a safe place.

    • 2). Take the nub off of the other end of the clutch cable with your pliers. Put this nub with your spring.

    • 3). Pull the cable out of its rubber sleeve. Your cable should now be naked and plain, except for a small cylinder, the cable head, at one end.

    • 4). Thread your cable through your gear shifter until the cylinder on the cable's end stops it from going further.

    • 5). Slide your cable back through its sleeve.

    • 6). Place the nub on the end of your cable and use your pliers to squeeze it flat. This will help keep it in place.

    • 7). Put the spring back on the end of your cable so that only an inch at the end of cable is left uncovered by it.

    Installing the Cable

    • 1). Squirt some light oil down the cable sleeve.

    • 2). Route your cable through the ball-mount on the motor so that the spring on your cable jacket is ahead of the ball mount. The section of cable in direct contact with the ball mount will just be covered by the cable sleeve.

    • 3). Put the cable wire through the clutch arm and attach the cable-end to the arm. Tighten the screw on the clutch arm (just above where the cable went through) so that the cable is held securely.
