DeLonghi Espresso Cappuccino Maker Bar 6 Instructions
- Before you use the Bar 6 espresso/cappuccino maker for the first time, wash all removable parts in warm soapy water and rinse well. Flush the water tank, steam tube and cappuccino nozzle, as follows.
First be sure that the machine is unplugged. To flush the water tank, turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it. Fill the carafe with water and use it to fill the tank, then replace the cap and tighten it with a clockwise motion. Plug the appliance in and put a filter into the holder. Put the filter holder under the boiler nozzle, line up the handle with the triangle mark on the side of the Bar 6, push it up and turn it to the right to attach it. The handle doesn't have to be straight.
Put the carafe beneath the holder, lining up the spout with the hole in the carafe. Push the lever to the "light" position and close the steam knob by turning it counterclockwise. Turn the switch to "on." In a few minutes, the carafe will begin filling with water. When the water stops, turn off the machine.
To flush the steam tube and nozzle, fill the carafe to the steam mark, pour the water into the water tank and tighten the cap. Turn the Bar 6 on. Water will begin filling the carafe. When it reaches the two-cup mark, set the flow regulator to "cappuccino," which is the steam icon. Take the lid off the carafe and put the carafe under the steam tube. Turn the steam knob slowly in a counterclockwise direction to open it. After the steam stops coming out of the nozzle, turn the steam knob in a clockwise direction to close it and turn the machine off. - Before you remove the cap from the water tank, make sure there's no steam in the boiler. Carefully turn the steam knob to release the steam through the steam tube. Don't remove the water tank cap or the filter holder until the steam stops.
Turn the machine off and unplug it. Put water in the carafe, using the fill lines. Pour the water into the tank and turn the cap clockwise to close it. Put the filter basket into the holder and add coffee, using the fill lines on the inside of the basket. Wipe the filter edge clean to ensure a good seal. Put the filter holder on the machine and set the carafe in place as above. Set the lever to the desired coffee strength. Plug the machine in and turn it on. After a few minutes, the carafe will begin filling.
When all of the water has passed into the carafe, turn off the machine. Check for steam pressure in the boiler by slowly turning the steam knob. Use the lever on the handle of the filter holder to turn it upside down and tap the coffee grounds out. Be careful with metal parts, since they'll be hot. - Prepare the Bar 6 as you would to make espresso. For two cups of cappuccino, fill the carafe with milk to the four-cup level, then transfer it to a larger container that will allow the milk to expand to at least three times its volume.
For four cups of cappuccino, fill the carafe with milk to the four-cup level twice, transferring it to a larger container. Place the cappuccino nozzle securely on the frothing tube. Turn the Bar 6 on. When the coffee begins to enter the carafe, turn the lever to "cappuccino." Occasionally move the container so that the nozzle grazes the milk's surface, causing it to froth.
If your machine has a flow regulator, after you push the lever to "cappuccino," insert the tube into the container to a depth shown on the cappuccino nozzle. Then, after the milk froths, turn the steam knob clockwise to close it, set the flow regulator to the brew type and the machine will continue to make coffee.
After the coffee brews, turn the machine off. Partially fill your cups with coffee, then add the frothed milk and the hot milk. Complete your cappuccino with sugar, cinnamon and cocoa powder, or use your favorite flavored syrup to add a twist of flavor to your creation.
Release steam from the machine by opening the steam knob. Put a container under the nozzle to catch any drips, and clean the tube to prevent the milk from drying on it.
