How to Carve Textured Icing
- 1). Place one cake layer on a cake platter. Pour 1/2 cup icing onto the layer. Spread it out evenly over the top of the cake. Cover it with the second layer.
- 2). Spread the remaining 2 1/2 cups of icing over the entire surface of the cake, making sure to cover the sides as well.
- 3). Hold a toothpick between your thumb and forefinger. Insert just the tip of the toothpick into the cake icing.
- 4). Drag the toothpick through the settling icing to create your choice of designs. For instance swirls and geometric shapes are good for beginners. Create as many shapes and designs with the toothpick as you want to texture your cake.
