Hi, my name is Maria Sparks with Cork and Platter and today, we're going to make ham, cheese and apple grilled sandwiches. We're going to start with sourdough bread and we're going to put on a little mayonnaise with garlic. The next thing we're going to do is we're going to put on a piece of ham. So, I got some ham from my local market and you just lay it out flat and nice and flat, so when you grill it, everything gets nice and warm and melty and tasty. The next thing we're going to put on is our Swiss cheese. You can really use anything; honestly I love Gruyere, what I love with ham and applies is brie, that goes tasty and it melts really really well too. So, we've got some nice Swiss cheese that we're going to put down. And then the next thing we're going to put down are our apples. Now, you could peel your apples if you want, I just love to get all the nutrients out of all my food, so, I like to leave the skin on, it adds a nice little crunch to it too when the sandwich is hot. And this is optional if you want, I like to have a little onion. Onion just has a nice, it's a somewhat strong flavor, but when you grill it, it mellows itself out. Then, I like to season my sandwich with a little salt and pepper. I also love to use lemon pepper, it's one of my favorite spices to use on a sandwich. It just brings out all the flavor. And you can put anything else you want on here, I'm going to make it really simple. The last thing I'm going to put on here is arugula. This is one of my favorite leafs, leafy greens. When you put this on a panini crust, or in a pan like we're going to do, then the, it, it holds itself; it holds its shape and it doesn't get all slimy like some lettuces do. So, I've got my butter here and I've got my butter nice and soft, so it's very easy to spread. And I'm just going to use my spatula, no need to waste another utensil. Get the butter all the way out to its edges and we're going to put it butter side down. While we're waiting for the bottom half to be cooked, we take the butter and we spread it on the top half. Here we go. Oh boy! And bam, look at that. You guys see that? It's beautiful. Now, I'm going to lower the heat 'cause the pan is super hot now, so it's going to continue to stay hot. We don't want it to over heat and then burn the bottom of the bread. And we've got most of the components are nice and hot now and it's just the finishing touches on the bottom of the bread; cheese is melted. Bring that to the forefront. Let's cut this bad boy open and see how it looks. Here we go. You can see the bits of cheese starting to melt, oh that looks really good. And that's how you make ham, cheese and apple grilled sandwiches.
