ObamaCare, Socialism, Medicine, Healthcare, and Venezuela
What does ObamaCare and Venezuela have in common? Well, Hugo Chavez worked very hard to control healthcare in his country, and things haven't worked out so well with regards to socialized medicine there.
Indeed, things have almost stopped working, and yet, before Chavez came to power, Venezuela had a great healthcare system, with fine doctors, many of whom had trained in the United States even.
There was an editorial recently (July 26, 2011) by Mary Anastasia O'Grady in the Wall Street Journal titled; "Venezuela's Docs Flee - So Does Chavez" which stated that "the scarcity of goods and services have been well-documented in Venezuela," and the article went on to give examples of food shortages, grocery stores closing, doctors leaving the country, and basic needs challenged too, including electricity, medicines, and more.
Price caps, rent control, gouging fines, minimum wage rules, increased taxes, and penalties, etc, has made it worse.
Doctors who are generally more well-to-do are leaving and have been leaving the country for quite some time, as the taxes are getting too high, while the prices have risen for ambulances, hospital stays, pharmaceuticals, and doctor services.
Meanwhile the remaining doctors are in fear for raising prices as they might be arrested.
Why is all this happening? Socialized medicine and socialism in general, you see socialism doesn't work, as it creates shortages, higher prices, while destroying the middle class, eventually making all the masses equally poor.
Socialism is not a long-term strategy and it has failed everywhere it has been tried, yes, without exception.
Attempting to control the money, capital, labor, and production flows against the instinctual needs, wants, and desires of human populations doesn't work.
What a lesson this is for the people of Venezuela, even for their leader Hugo Chavez, recently was diagnosed with cancer, and couldn't get the treatment he needed in his own country, or perhaps he was afraid to see any of the doctors which have been the victims of his socialized healthcare and medical plans.
Hugo Chavez's plan to find a doctor he could trust and the best medical help? He went to Cuba.
Interesting, a socialist leader goes to a communist country to get better healthcare services to save his life, because the destruction of his own nation's healthcare system, the destruction his policies caused make it unsafe, or unusable.
Interesting really, and what is even more interesting is that the President of Venezuela was afraid to come to the US, where we still have the best doctors and healthcare in the world - at least for now.
Well, I shouldn't say that because whereas, we still have the best healthcare in the world, I doubt we won't in the future after ObamaCare gets done with it.
After all look at the damage ObamaCare is already causing.
Increases in healthcare insurance, and medical costs are growing at 8% per year, at a time when our inflation rate is barely pushing 1.
5 - 2%.
Indeed, I hope you will please consider this and support capitalism, not socialism.
