citizen that has not renounced your citizenship You will be filling out 4 copies of the application, 2 for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATF), 1 for CLEO (Chief Local Law Enforcement Officer), and 1 for yourself to keep on file.
Once complete you application must be mailed and accompanied by two passport photos identifying you on the back, fingerprints, and the fees for all requested licenses.
You may request more than one type of license for your place of business, but if you have more than one place of business you have to fill out separate applications and get licenses for each location.
Your business address cannot be a PO Box.
It can be your home if that is where you are going to conduct business, but you cannot violate any state or local laws or ordinances by running a firearms business out of your home.
Be sure you have checked your state, county, city and HOA rules and regulations.
You must be in compliance with everyone before your application interview.
A FFL does not give you the right to disobey any state or local laws regarding your firearms business.
For example, if you can get a FFL for a home business, but your HOA (home owners association) says no way do they want a gun business in their midst, then you can't use your home as your business.
By the time you are called to schedule your interview, you will need to know all the state and local laws that will govern your business and be in compliance with them.
You will also need to show the security measures you are taking to keep firearms and ammo safe and secure.
The BATF is stringent in their application process, and it may seem tedious, but do you really want it any other way? To get more information on this topic and other topics about federal firearms licensing check the authors' bio box below.
