How to Access the Belt on a GE Dryer

    • 1). Move your GE dryer from the wall and unplug it from the receptacle.

    • 2). Remove the top from your GE dryer. The top panel on the older GE dryers lifts up from and away from the dryer and hinges at the back. The top panel on a newer GE model slides off the dryer, leaving the console in place. Open the dryer door to find the screws holding both the older and newer model GE dryers. They are located just above the dryer door on the inner lip. Removing these screws allows you to remove the top.

    • 3). Open the front of the GE dryer by removing the two screws at the front corners of the dryer panel. Lift the front panel from the dryer to access the drum. Some models of GE dryers may require you to remove two additional screws from the bottom corners of the front panel to remove it.

    • 4). Reach underneath the GE dryer drum to pull the belt from the idler pulley. Push the pulley arm to the right to loosen the belt and remove it.
