Also, the High Court of Australia has given expanded responsibilities and powers to the federal government which is about to choose the next Prime Minister for the 43rd Parliament of Australia this coming August 21, 2010.
It can also be found in the constitution of Australia that the constitution itself can be amended given the approval from the electorate and through the national referendum wherein it is a compulsory that all adults on the electoral rolls should participate.
However, before the amendment can be done, a bill which contains the amendment must be first passed by both houses of parliament.

All or any of the constitutional changes must be given approval from the majority of electors of all states as well as the national majority of electors.
And for the affected states, there should also be a majority of votes from all qualified votes from those states so that the subject of the referendum will be implemented and that the amendments should take effect.
