You simply cannot just buy any freshwater aquarium fish you want and hope they'll survive in the aquarium you have set up.

OK, we don't eat each other (I've just remembered that some actually do don't they, but that calls for a completely separate article) but we are fussy on times regarding who we want to spend our time with.
When buying your freshwater aquarium fish do just a little research first.
How big will they be when fully grown? Which plants do they prefer.
What temperature should the water be? Will the different species you have eat each other? It's really not difficult to find out this information, even if you're asking at your local fish shop.
It takes a few minutes of your time to make sure you have the correct freshwater aquarium fish for a happy freshwater aquarium.
And once you've got that, you've got it for life.
