"This is Freedom" by Lorraine Dort

From the Artist: I tried to get a soft look for the clouds and still use my main colors of orange and blue. I wanted the look of an early evening sky with just a bit of the sunset still shining through. I think a lighter peachier orange might have been better for this, however I'm satisfied with the shade. I did the top part of the sky first in the orange and then toned it way down with the blue. Second I put in the fluffy clouds and made shadows with the blue and let some of the orange show through.

I think it turned out okay but I wish I had made the seagull a little larger. This is my third attempt so I decided to leave it alone. I really like it or at least the idea of it, and it scanned well which some of them don't and the colors are pretty true.

I don't have many tubes of watercolor (just a really dark for the blue and no orange at all) so I used watercolor pencils and a pastel for the white. It was a fun project once I got going. I think I would like to try a painting some time that is all one color or monochrome. I absolutely never would have tried this if it weren't on the project list. I am glad I did now. It is amazing how many shades and colors you can get with just two colors.
