How to Wind the Line on a Homelite Trimmer
- 1). Switch off the ignition by moving the ignition switch into the "Off" setting. Lift up the rubber, disconnecting it from the spark plug, which will prevent any accidents during rewinding. Flip the shaft upside down to work on the head.
- 2). Hold the string head steady while rotating the cover counterclockwise. Lift the cover off and, while still holding the head, lift out the spool containing the trimmer line. Unroll and remove any old line from the spool.
- 3). Insert the first length of line into the anchor hole on the upper half of the spool so about ¼ inch of line protrudes from the anchor hole. Hold the spool in one hand. Grab and pull the line tight with the other. Wind the line following the arrow on the spool flange. Make sure the line stays tight against the spool. Use even rows that don't crisscross each other.
- 4). Leave 6 inches unwound. Push the base of the extended line into the slot on the spool's upper flange. Repeat this same winding process for the second line, only using the bottom anchor hole and winding it against the bottom half of the spool. Insert the remaining 6 inches into the opposite slot on the upper flange.
- 5). Set the spool down against the string head. Seat the spool against the head by rotating it slightly. Thread the line ends through the eyelets on the head. Pull the lines up to free them from their slots. Refit the cover and screw it on clockwise.
