How to Search the State of Minnesota Corrections' Criminal History
- 1). Go to the Minnesota Department of Corrections website. Click on the "search offender records" link.
- 2). Choose type of search. There are five different search categories on the Minnesota Department of Corrections offender search page. The first option is a level 3 predatory offender search. These are offenders who have committed crimes requiring public notification when they reside in your community. The second search category is offender locator. This link provides details on offenders still behind bars or currently on probation. The third category is active fugitives and features those who have fled before being incarcerated, escaped from prison, or disappeared while on probation. Law enforcement viewer is the fourth category and can only be accessed by law enforcement officials. The final category is the Minnesota public criminal history search link that allows anyone to search criminal histories on offenders for up to 15 years after their release.
- 3). Enter offender's information. When you link to any of the search categories, enter the offender's name and other personal information you may have, such as birthday and city where they may reside. If you only have a last name, enter that and you will be able to view a list of all offenders with that last name to search. On the level 3 search, you can enter the city alone and find all level 3 offenders in your community.
