    • 1). Clean the inside of the closet thoroughly. Wipe down the walls, ceiling, shelving and door with an all-purpose cleaner that includes bleach. Wait for the closet to air-dry before proceeding.

    • 2). Paint the walls, ceiling, shelving and door of your grow closet with a high-gloss, reflective white paint. You can also attach silver Mylar sheets to the walls, ceiling, shelving and door of your grow closet to serve the same reflective purpose, if desired.

    • 3). Attach a grow light system, complete with ballast and reflector, to the ceiling of your grow closet. Set up the grow-light system so that the light can be raised and lowered as needed. Avoid using 1,000- or 2,000-watt grow light systems in small closets, as the high-wattage bulbs can raise the temperature of your grow closet dramatically.

    • 4). Install a fan in your grow closet to help keep the closet cool and the air circulating. Point the fan toward your grow-light system, as this is what will create the heat in your grow closet.

    • 5). Line the floor of your grow closet with several sheets of thick plastic to protect it from water, soil or fertilizer spills.

    • 6). Select the type of growing system that you want to use in your grow closet. Choose from wick, ebb-and-flow, or aeroponic hydroponic systems if this is your first experience growing with hydroponics. Try the more complicated nutrient film technique or drip hydroponic systems if you have previous hydroponic experience. Forgo hydroponics and keep things simple by growing your plants in traditional soil-filled planting containers, if desired.
