Peg Board Tool Ideas

Few things are more frustrating than not being able to locate the tool you need when you need it. Having an organized garage starts with smart storage. Pegboards are one of the most effective and efficient means of keeping tools accessible and in good working order. Easily mounted and capable of being custom fit to any space, pegboard makes tool storage simple and convenient. - Traditionally, pegboard has been made of pressed-wood byproduct. Over time it can break down or holes can fail and break out. However, it is cost effective, and using fasteners that hold fast instead of moving like hooks when a tool is removed can preserve the integrity of the panel.
Metal pegboards are far more resilient and long-lasting. The extra expense is minimal and more than pays for itself in longevity and usefulness. - For larger tools, grab a marker and draw a line around the tool on the pegboard after you have mounted it. This will remind you and anyone else using your tools where those things belong.
- For smaller items that are size- or purpose-specific, such as screws, it is best to label them after they are placed on the board. That way everything is clearly marked for its size and function and you can lose the hit-and-miss approach.
- If you have power tools that need charging, it is handy to have an electrical outlet within cord distance. Be sure to think about board and tool placement in relationship to the outlet since it will probably already be positioned before your organizational upgrade.
- Several companies provide containers and trays for pegboards. These are convenient for screws, nails, clips, nuts and bolts. Many of the containers come with screw-top lids and can be easily removed and replaced as needed.
- The fasteners you choose for your pegboard should be sturdy and, as often as possible, secured to the board to resist movement. Using fasteners that move when you remove and replace tools will cause the holes of the board to elongate and eventually fail. Companies selling pegboard should also have a stock of pegboard accessories. You also could visit a hardware store and put some things together yourself.
