Top Ten Things to Do in Barceloneta - Port Vell Cable Car
The Port Vell - Montjuic cable car, part of the Telefèrics de Catalunya network, offers hair-raising bird's eye views over the port and city of Barcelona. It's one of the best ways to gain a unique perspective on Barcelona and combine two of its most interesting areas, Barceloneta and Montjuic. The Port Vell Cable Car is one of the top things to do in Barceloneta, Barcelona.
First off is a vertiginous ascent in an elevator, holding up to twenty people, to the top of the Sant Sebastiá Tower.
Next the car dangles precariously over Barcelona's port on its seven-minute journey to the gardens of Costa i Llobera on Montjuic mountain, where there are numerous telescopes to enjoy the views. Between Barceloneta and Montjuic there's a pit-stop along the way at the Jame I Tower, beside the World Trade Center.
Once on top of Montjuic you can either go on and enjoy the many tourist attractions up here such as the Mirò Foundation, Montjuic Palace and Olympic Stadium before getting the Metro back to the city centre at Parallel or Plaza Espanya stations (Green Line), or return to Barceloneta on the cable car.
The cable car route dates back to 1929, when it was engineered for the 1929 Universal Exposition. Cars run every quarter of an hour. There are no seats and the car can move around quite a bit, but it's fairly easy to go back and forth enjoying views from different parts of the carriage.
