If you've got an introvert on your shopping list, consider one of these fascinating reads about the introverted personality. A gift from this list could help your introverted friend feel like you understand them just a little bit better.

Even if you're an ambivert or extrovert, reading more about introverts can help you relate to the people at work or in your family.

1. Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

Many introverts have resonated with Quiet, the book about introverts by Susan Cain. In an interview she said she wrote the book "for the same reason that Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique in 1963. Introverts are to extroverts what women were to men at that time--second-class citizens with gigantic amounts of untapped talent."

Quiet has started a revolution of sorts, with introverts proudly sharing their preferences for communication and interaction with friends and family members. Emma Watson, the actress from the Harry Potter movies, recently shared her thoughts about being an introvert.

I enjoyed this book a lot, giving it four stars out of five. I also enjoyed Cain's TED Talks presentation about the subject as well.More »

2. The Introvert Advantage: How to Thrive in an Extrovert World Paperback

In The Introvert Advantage, Marti Olsen Laney says that "Introverts are like a rechargeable battery. They need to stop expending energy and rest in order to recharge. Extroverts are like solar panels that need the sun to recharge. Extroverts need to be out and about to refuel."

Written in 2002, The Introvert Advantage helped people identify their introverted personalities and how to nurture themselves in the way that would best help them succeed in the world. The book talks a lot about energy, and how introverts can keep theirs up in a largely extroverted society. This is an issue that some introverts must learn about over time, the information in here is very helpful to maintaining healthy relationships.More »

3. Introvert Power: Why Your Inner Life Is Your Hidden Strength

There are different figures thrown around about introverts, and in this book author Laurie Helgoe says over half the U.S. population is introverted. One of the things that fascinated me about this book was her take on the "Socially Accessible Introvert," or someone who pretends to be more extroverted when they really aren't. I think this is a concept many introverts can relate to. We feel we need to "act like an extrovert" in certain social situations, but the reality is that doesn't help us truly fit in. A better way is to use your strengths as an introvert to connect with people at places like cocktail parties. (Here's more on how to do that.)

Many have felt that Helgoe's book helped them relate to the extroverts in their life and understand themselves. Her real-life snippets from introverts make the book even more enjoyable.More »

4. The Introvert's Way: Living a Quiet Life in a Noisy World

In this book published in 2012, Sophia Dembling shared bits from her own experience as an introvert to offer insight and validation. The book has an encouraging tone, and offers a way for introverts who have been discouraged from living out their personality to embrace their true way of interacting with people.

She uses "reframing" of certain terms introverts are used to hearing. For instance: not antisocial, shy, or unfriendly, but someone who enjoys solitude. These insights will help introverts who have struggled look at their life in a more positive way.

5. Quiet Influence: The Introvert's Guide to Making a Difference

Jennifer Kahnweiler's book helps introverts identify their natural strengths and how to use them. This book helps build on some of the other books that offer positive reinforcement about introversion, and allows introverts to look at their strengths through six common areas. The book includes a "Quiet Influence Quotient" quiz as a way for each reader to measure their strengths and areas for improvements. More »
