How to Install Super Links on Motorcycle Chains

    • 1). Lay the chain over both sprockets so that the open end of the chain is on top and close to the rear sprocket. Lubricate the link with the grease that comes with the link. Slide the super link inside the chain with the pins facing outward.

    • 2). Place the outside-link plate over the two protruding pins; use the pliers to squeeze it onto the point that the pins protrude through the plate.

    • 3). Slide the chain-link mushroom tool over the link. Make sure the tool fits perfectly over one of the pins. Tighten the tool, slowly watching to make sure the compression tip of the tool seats directly on top of the pin. Tighten the tool in increments and then loosen to check the progress. The main thing here is that you do not want to over-tighten or mushroom the pins too much, or the link will bind. If this happens, the new link is wasted and will need to be replaced. Mushroom the pin just enough to be uniform but loose; then do the opposite pin in the same manner.
