2008's Limited Edition American Girl doll was an ice skater named Mia St. Clair.

About American Girl Dolls:


American Girl dolls and the related American Girl books teach girls (and their parents and brothers) about American history. Each year, a limited edition doll is introduced. 2008's doll is a figure skater.

About Mia St. Clair:


Mia St. Clair is ten years old. She has red hair, green eyes, and freckles.


She lives in New York State and her brothers play hockey, but she has decided to pursue her figure skating dream. A family crisis may make it difficult for Mia to compete in Regionals.

The Basic Mia Doll Did Not Come With Figure Skates:


The basic Mia doll came with a paperback book. The doll wore a zip-top turtleneck sweater. a skating skirt, underwear, light pink tights, and sneakers with pink laces. In order to obtain a doll that includes skates, it was necessary to buy Mia's Starter Collection or to purchase Mia's accessories.

Real-life girls could purchase an exact duplicate of Mia's skating outfit.

A sweater, skirt, and pink tights were available. The sweater came in girl's sizes extra-small through extra-large and the skirt came in girl's sizes 6 through 16. The tights came in girl's sizes small, medium, large, and extra-large.

Only Available in 2008:


Like all American Girl Limited Edition dolls, the Mia figure skating doll was only available for purchase for one year; Mia was only available in 2008.

About the Books:


Mia has played ice hockey with her three older brothers. She is quite a good hockey player, in fact. She feels as if she is skating in her brothers' shadows, so she decides to pursue figure skating. In the first book, she begins training with a new coach. In the second book, she trains for Regionals, but a family crisis may prevent her from competing. Mia learns lessons in both books about hard work and good sportsmanship.

The author of the Mia books is Laurence Yep of Pacific Grove, California. He is considered one of children's literature's most respected authors.
