How are Panic Attacks and Depression linked together

For many years, doctors thought that you could have either panic attacks or depression, but, not both. But, in the last few years, researchers have found that it is a big possibility to have both. To people that have panic attacks, this is nothing new. Think about it. You have a panic attack when you go to your favorite store. You leave in a hurry, hoping no one saw you and you just need to get out of there and away from whatever was causing your panic. Now, what do you do the next time you want to go to this store. You think about the last time you were there and remember the panic attack you had. If you are like most panic attack sufferers, you will decide that you just don't want to take the chance and you won't go back. Well, if this happens enough times, you will start to have panic attacks almost everywhere you go because in the back of your mind, you will always be wondering, is it going to happen here just like it did in my favorite store? Before you know it, you will start staying home more, always worrying. After a while, this will make you depressed.

What is Depression
Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts. It will affect the way a person eats and sleeps, the way one feels about oneself, and the way one thinks about things. A depressive disorder is not the same as a passing blue mood. It is not a sign of personal weakness or a condition that can be wished away. People with a depressive disease cannot merely "pull themselves together" and get better. Without treatment, symptoms can last for weeks, months, or years. Appropriate treatment, however, can help most people with depression.

What are the signs of DepressionPersistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood
Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed, including sex
Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down"
Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
Insomnia, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping
Appetite and/or weight loss or overeating and weight gain
Thoughts of death or suicide; suicide attempts
Restlessness, irritability
Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as headaches, digestive disorders, and chronic pain

If you have panic attacks and have fallen into depression, now is the time to get help. These two problems are serious and need to be addressed as soon as possible. Remember, there is a solution to your panic attacks, you just need to find out what your solution is. Keep your head up, I have been living with Panic Attacks for over 11 years and am happy to say that I'm dong great. I have not had a panic attack in over 5 years and hope to keep it that way and I hope that with the proper help, you can be panic attack free as well.
