In today's world of globalization it is becoming extremely important for people to look and feel good. A lot of importance and attention is being paid for personal grooming and upkeep of their body, dress and other such things. People travel and lot and meet different people belonging to different culture and regions. Dressing up properly and being in sync with modern day fashion trends is becoming extremely important.

Under the circumstances, for many career aspirants, taking up an alternate career in fashion and styling is slowly becoming a norm of the day. This is because these less-traveled career paths have lower levels of competition and the growth opportunities are also very encouraging and motivating. If a person is desirous of looking at such alternate career path, he or she could look at the option to become a personal stylist.

But choosing this career is easier said than done. Though it offers great potential and growth prospects, getting into this career demands tons of energy and hard work and a total commitment to the fashion world. Not only that, as a person who has decided to become an image consultant he or she has to constantly keep updating knowledge and information because fashion trends are changing by the minute and what is relevant today may become obsolete tomorrow.

Failure is a word which should not find a mention in a person who wishes to grow in the fashion industry. Apart from being knowledgeable and skillful, you should also be a good manager of time and you need to be extremely organized. A bit of business and marketing acumen would also go a long way in bringing new customers to your fold. Good interpersonal skills like talking, convincing and presentation skills are also very useful in building a career in this line.

You should have a good idea about garments and should have a keen eye for selecting the right color combination and style, not only for your client but also for yourself. Remember, unless you look trendy and contemporary, you would not be able to sell the idea to your clients.

If you really and truly want to become a personal stylist you should have the convincing power and self-belief not only to explain to your client as to how to look fashionable, but also the "why" aspect should be adequately explained. If you have been working in the fashion industry for some time and have gathered reasonable experience, you should be able to tell the fashion requirements of a client by just having a simple glance at his or her body.

Additionally, as a person in the fashion and styling world, you should be a good listener and should understand the requirements of your client very well. You would do your career prospects a world of good if you underwent a course in fashion and styling which would equip you with a professional degree that many clients may want. Taking some internship and training under some good fashion designer would also be of great help in developing you as a great stylist.
