Coming Into This World Of RC Aircraft
Question, does anyone out there have any idea what 1903, bicycles, & two brothers have in common? Anyone have a guess?..
..
How about occasionally offered cheap fares between U.
S.
cities and long distances traveled to a favorite vacation hide-aways.
Still unsure..
..
will the "Wright flyer" help at all! Yes indeed, its sometimes hard to fathom that just a little over 100 years ago as a result of what two brothers accomplished & the foresight they enjoyed we can be anywhere in the world in a matter of hours..
...
yes hours.
What this pair created is commonly known as the "Wright Flyer".
It was and is considered to be the first heavier-than-air aircraft/machine.
Astonishingly enough the first flight lasted a whopping 12 seconds and covered a distance of approximately 120 ft or (36.
5m).
There wouldn't have eclipsed the total wingspan of most passenger jets in use today! The last flight covered 852 feet (260m) in approximately 59 secs.
There were a total of five flights with the remaining three covering between 120 & 200 ft.
Sometimes its hard to believe that at the beginning of WWI it had only been roughly 16 years or so since the Wright brothers first flight.
The idea of manned flight was barely understood, but as early as can be pinned down & not to be out done way back in 1939 some very enterprising individuals under took the necessary work to bring along the first scratch-built RC aircraft.
Every make and model rc aircraft has been represented From fighters to bombers, and these days all theatres are present...
WWI, WWII, Korea, right on through to Desert storm & Iraqi Freedom.
And some of the RC jet turbines have exceeded speeds of over 200 mph.
