    • 1). Place the bicycle in the work stand. Unscrew the stem on the center of the head tube of the bicycle. Lift the stem up and off the fork tube and let it hang to the side. Remove the spacer rings on the head tube. Place a cloth over the fork tube and tap on the head tube and cloth with a hammer to push the fork out of the frame.

    • 2). Measure the old fork's steerer tube -- the tube that was tapped to drop it from the frame. Use this as the length for the new tube's steerer. Push the new suspension tube up and into the frame head tube. Let the steerer stick up and out of the top of the head tube.

    • 3). Cut down the steerer tube to the measured length with the tube cutter tool. Be sure your measurement is absolutely correct before cutting -- measure twice and cut once.

    • 4). Install the crown screw into the new suspension steerer tube using the headset tool. Press the tool down onto the screw and use the headset tool to provide pressure to set the screw.

    • 5). Set the spacer rings on the steerer tube and slide the stem with the handlebars back onto the steerer. Tighten the stem onto the tube with the an Allen wrench. Place the steerer crown cap on the top of the steerer and tighten it with the Allen wrench.
