How to Build Your Dream Wedding Dress
- 1). Try on as many dresses in as many different silhouettes and shapes as possible. There are a variety of shapes to wedding dresses, such as classic A-line, ball gown, mermaid style, dropped-waist and sheath dress. Narrow down which styles complement your figure best.
- 2). Experiment with fabrics. Some fabrics will suit your body better than others. A clingy, sheath dress will suit some figures, while an organza ball gown with many layers and pickups will work best with others.
- 3). Flip through magazines and scroll through wedding dress websites to find accents and embellishments you prefer. Some prefer simple, clean lines, while others prefer bead work, corsets, lace appliques and ruffles. Print out or tear out photos of elements you like to help guide dress consultants and tailors.
- 4). Try different necklines. Strapless is the most requested neckline; however, this will not suit everyone. Elegant and modest high necklines, halter tops, asymmetrical straps and a sweetheart neckline are all options.
- 5). Purchase a dress with the shape and neckline you desire. These elements will be the most difficult to alter, so starting with the ideal dress shape is key. Beading, lace and other embellishments can be added through alterations.
