The British Museum has the largest and most comprehensive collection of ancient Egyptian materials outside Cairo!

There is still an impressive collection of Egyptian Mummies at The Cairo Museum in Egypt.

But what is a mummy? A mummy is a preserved Egyptian body and these mummy resources should help explain the process. The preservation of the body was an essential part of the Egyptian funerary belief and practice as death and the afterlife held particular significance and meaning for the ancient Egyptians.

At the British Museum you can see associated objects including coffins, mummies, funerary masks, portraits and other items designed to be buried with the deceased.
