Entertaining Weekend in the NFL
The highlights of the amazing 9 minutes of endings on ESPN was awesome.
And within a 6 minute period you had multiple field goal kickers slicing goal posts for game winners! That was classic.
One of which was the surprising Atlanta Falcons with their kicker Jason Elam beating the Chicago Bears.
The Falcons have simply risen above the ashes of their Michael Vick and Bobby Petrino soap opera season from a year ago and got right back to the fundamentals.
And their rookie QB Matt Ryan is showing maturity beyond his years or I should say year.
Also important for me to point out about this game is the play of Kyle Orton.
I liked him coming out of Purdue but I thought he had proven to be a back-up at best in the NFL.
Now he suddenly has straightened out his trajectory in his passes and learned how to get a ball to a receiver in a timely fashion and has blossomed into a solid QB.
Minnesota Vikings Ryan Longwell got to be another hero by winning the game with a 26 yard game ender.
However this was against the Division 1 Detroit Lions.
The Vikings, a pre-season flavor of the week for many prognosticators, is barely staying alive in the NFC North let alone keeping up with the NFC leaders.
The St.
Louis Rams also pulled victory out of their butt by beating the Washington Redskins with a last minute field goal.
This was not only a bit of a surprise, but this was a bad loss for the Redskins.
Coming off 2 impressive wins on the road against division rivals the Redskins had a chance to solidify themselves as a contender.
The Arizona Cardinals made a nice statement beating the Cowboys.
Maybe, just maybe this will finally be the year they make the playoffs.
Although they have had a history of playing Dallas close to the vest.
As I have been on record as saying the Browns usually take 4 to 5 weeks of the season to play up to their capability.
I was not shocked with their home win against the New York Giants.
Tampa Bay really rose to the occasion by blind siding the Carolina Panthers.
If Gruden could make up his mind on quarterbacks they might be able to build of last years playoff run.
Well it looks like someone found the Indianapolis Colts.
Coming in the game allowing 188 yards rushing per game I thought the Baltimore Ravens would run their way to a win in Indy.
Someone forgot to tell the Colts to roll over.
Are they back? This team has been heading down this road for the last 3 years.
Marvin Lewis lossed this team in 2006.
They suck and have no chance of getting better any time soon.
On paper this should have been unexpected but if you have watched them you were waiting for this.
A big win for Philadelphia but they were the better team.
The Eagles are too top heavy and they will run out of gas against the elite teams as the season plays out.
Top heavy meaning they have some stars but they are mixed with below average role players.
With a banged up Westbrook they have no shot of a deep run.
But against the San Francisco 49ers Correll Buckhalter is a quality back-up.
That won't be the case against better teams.
This was a big win for San Diego considering they have been backed into a corner.
The New England Patriots defense has been in decline over the last couple years but a Tom Brady led offense kept them winning.
Matt Cassell isn't able to command that kind of production.
Jacksonville Jaguars have sputtered out of the gate but have slowly smoothed things out.
The loss to Pittsburgh stung a bit but to their credit they put it into their memory bank and came out and beat Denver.
