How To Best Attend a Data Governance Conference
If you are getting ready to attend a Data Governance Conference for the first time, then, good for you!Changes are you'll be attending something by Willshire because they seem to be the big player in Data conferences.
I've been to a couple of these and I thought I'd share some observations and tips so that you can maximize the value (because they are expensive!) of all the information presented: - If you attend with a group, split up!These conferences are notorious for triple overlapping, so choose what looks best for your team, and then split up.
-Attend the keynote, but don't expect to get much out of it.
So far they have been fun, but not very informational.
-Attend the practitioner panels.
These are very informal and you'll have your chance to ask questions and see interaction between people who have been successful in their bid to setup a good Data Governance Program.
-Plan on eating their lunches, its usually pretty good.
-Stay an extra day or two, or arrive early.
The Willshire guys are pretty good at picking destinations that you might like to visit anyway.
Orlando, San Francisco, San Diego, England...
you minght as well enjoy it while you are there.
-Focus on attending practitioner and workshop sessions.
I've found you get the most out of these!Practitioners give real world experience and advice.
At times, when listening to consultants, it gets to theoretical and too far from reality.
Its nice to listen to someone who has been there and done that.
Those are what comes to mind right now!Feel free to visit my site and leave a comment if you have any other good tips to get the most out of attending a DG conference!
