Old Information

• "Star Wars Galaxies" was changed significantly in the New Game Enhancements (NGE) update that occurred in November 2005. This update altered the structure of the profession and skills system in the game. Many old strategies for the game were rendered useless in this update. Avoid using any hints or tips for the game that were published prior to November 2005. This information is based on an old version of the game, which included skills, professions and game mechanics that were completely removed in the NGE update.
  
  

Profession Selection

• The player profession selected will determine what skills and equipment the player can use. An important thing to keep in mind is that all of the classes are intended to be viable. The more impressive-sounding Jedi, Bounty Hunter and Officer professions are not vastly superior to the other professions. The more mundane Trader, Entertainer and Medic have critical support skills that benefit every other player in the game. Each profession clearly lists out its specializations in the character creation screen. Determine what strategy you want to use before picking a profession. If you want to focus on dealing damage with long-range weapons, the Spy is the best choice. Each class has its own unique skills to help it in combat. A good Commando or Smuggler can be just as useful in combat as a Jedi or Bounty Hunter by focusing on its own profession strengths.
  
  

Profession Expertise

• Players in "Star Wars: Galaxies" earn expertise points that can be used to purchase additional special abilities. The player will never have enough points to buy all of the available abilities, so she must determine what expertise skills will most benefit her strategy. The most powerful abilities require focusing on one particular aspect of your character. There are two viable strategies for expertise skill selection. You can select a diverse range of skills to improve all of your abilities; you will lose access to the more powerful abilities, but you will be better at any aspect of your character, not just one. You could also specialize on one group of abilities to gain the most powerful expertise skills focused on it. For example, a Spy would focus solely on improving stealth attacks. This would end up more than doubling the damage of those attacks, in addition to numerous other benefits. In this case, the expertise skills would only benefit the Spy if he focuses on only using stealth attacks.
