How to Troubleshoot GE Refrigerator Problems
- 1). Make sure the fridge is plugged in and that it is receiving power. If it is plugged in and the power is still off, inspect the breaker the outlet is hooked up to. Make sure the fridge is not tight against the wall and that it is pulled far enough out so airflow can get in the back where the coils are. Also make sure the doors are closing and sealing properly.
- 2). Look at the temperature dials inside the fridge. There should be one for both the fridge and the freezer. If the setting is too high, food could be freezing and you can experience excessive ice buildup. If the setting is too low, you may have water leaking from the fridge and food may be going bad.
- 3). Examine the front display if your fridge has one. If it is reading "0F 0F" then the fridge is in Demo mode. GE recommends holding in the Energy Saver and Adjust Freezer buttons at the same time for three seconds to exit Demo and put the fridge back to normal, though it can take up to 24 hours for the temperatures to stabilize. If the fresh food compartment is in Demo mode, pressing the Ice Off and Freezer buttons at the same time for three seconds will turn it off.
- 4). Ensure your fridge is properly stocked with food but not overly full. GE claims that a completely full or nearly empty fridge will possibly not run correctly since the food is used to help stabilize a consistent temperature in both the fridge and freezer.
- 5). Inspect the hoses for any leaks and the drains for any clogs if the fridge is leaking. Damaged hoses require replacement while a clogged drain can be cleaned out.
