How to Clean Steel Weights
- 1). Wash the weights with a garden hose or a metal cleaning solution purchased in a home improvement or hardware store. Dry the weights thoroughly with clean, dry rags. A wire brush can be used to remove rust and built-on dirt only if the weights are to be painted later.
- 2). Remove rust by soaking them in a large metal pan filled with enough cola to cover them. Allow the weights to soak in the cola for four days, and then wash them with a garden hose. Stubborn rust spots may require using a wire brush to remove.
- 3). Dry thoroughly with clean, dry rags.
- 4). Spray paint the weights with a semi-flat enamel paint. The weights can be hung through an old broomstick, allowing them to be rotated while painting.
